Question

Mommies, and Daddies too, I am curious to know at what age you began to introduce your little ones to cereal. (as in a little mixed into their formula/breast milk). I am asking because I have received many different answers. I have heard as early as two weeks from some and then others at four months. People have told me that I would ‘just know’ when Simon was ready. Please comment to share what worked for you and your baby!

Sarah,

We started feeding RJ cereal at 6 months. However, we started putting a little rice cereal in her last bottle of the night probably around 4 months-ish to give her a little extra to make it a little longer at night. I think if you feel like he can do it, then try it. He'll let you know if he is ready or not. Good luck!

Jacob's Dr. said you can "try' it a four months...but really not until 6 mo. DON'T START unless you have to!!! that is my advice! He still needs to be getting almost all of his calories from formula/bmilk.

Our Dr. told us to start at 4 months, more so to get her used to a spoon. The spoon did not go over well at first, so we mixed it in the bottle and left a little for the bowl. At 6 months we were not putting it in the bottle anymore, but giving her cereal and we started fruit.

Ok, Here's my advice, which is worth about as much as you paid for it : With Jake, I followed the whole cereal at 4 months, other foods at 6 which is what Drs reccomend these days and looking back I think I could have solved a lot of his sleep issues (which he STILL has) if I had started foods much sooner. With Shelby Claire, I started at about 3 months with cereal one week and then started adding fruits and veggies.I probably would have started with her a bit earlier as well but, she was a bit early so I just wanted to make sure her swallowing was mature enough. She just seemed ready and she's been thriving and doing fine. I don't really understand why they want you to wait, these days. I think, If you think he's ready, then try it. Hell, our parents were feeding us cereal at 2 weeks old! Just try a little, if he can't handle the texture, just add a little more milk and make it thinner. Really, just trust your instincts, your NOT gonna screw him up! ;) love you, keep the pictures comin!!

From what I understand you'll just "know". Our Dr recommended strongly not to give him anything before 6 months to avoid allergies, eczema, etc, but it ended up being irrelevant for us. He had bad reflux so he needed rice cereal to thicken the formula as early as 6 weeks. He's fine now though. No damage. I would start with single grain rice first though. You're not going to "break" him:) BTW, you look fabulous as always! It's not fair:)

...also, as a speech path/mom you'll know too because he may be too immature for the spoon. Asher was our first couple of tries. If he takes any at all it may be mixed in his bottle this early.

Sarah-Cole had reflux and our Dr. suggested for us to start putting cereal in his bottle. We started this at 8 weeks.......we started feeding with a spoon at 4 months.....
