Home Sweet Home

Last weekend was very special for Kelly and I. We officially broke ground on our future home!!! To be more precise, Kelly and his Dad broke ground. I just stood to the side and took pictures of the big event. :) We always knew that we wanted to build a house one day but didn’t know where or when. Kelly’s family all live close together. Close, as in his parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles and cousins all live within a mile of each other. After considering a few locations, we found the perfect spot on a hill across from his parents’ house. We were blessed to have been given the land by Kelly’s grandparents. In the beginning, all you could see were trees…a lot of them! After almost two years of clearing timber, truckloads of dirt, building a driveway, adding electricity and water and agreeing on a house-plan; we are ready for the next step! Kelly and his Dad will be doing the majority of the work themselves. This will be a special time for them, and I’m glad that they can do it together. They each have full-time jobs, so the majority of the work will be done on weekends and Kelly’s long-breaks. I know that this will be a test of patience and trust on my part! ;) As you can see from the pictures, they worked on the batter-boards over the weekend. The top picture is before they started work Saturday, and the bottom shot is while they were hard at it! Our “footing” will be dug this weekend. I hope to become a pro in the “construction lingo” before long. Stay tuned!
